This repurposed building houses the East Asia Library along with the offices of the Registrar, the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education, Academic Computing, Digital Library Systems and Services and the Enterprise Systems and Programming.
Extensive replacement of original and outdated equipment was necessary to modernize the building. Its concrete structure provided challenges with low floor to floor heights, small mechanical rooms and limited floor penetration options.
Complex duct routing made sound attenuator selection and placement challenging. Mechanical equipment is in close proximity to acoustically sensitive library spaces, making sound isolation a priority for occupant comfort. A slatted ceiling cloud design features made strict duct breakout noise control imperative.
The project team includes Perkins+Will as the project architect, ACCO Engineered Systems as the mechanical design build firm, and TEECOM as the IT and acoustical consultant. Soundscape performed the mechanical noise control as a subcontractor.
