The Swan Valley School District realized they had outgrown their existing auditorium when the full band could no longer fit on stage for concerts.
With a growing community population, there was no reason to delay expanding the district’s facilities. In 2021, voters approved a $25 million bond proposal that included a new performing arts auditorium at the high school, along with several other improvements across the district.
To guide the design of the new 600-seat auditorium, Soundscape met with the district to define project goals. It was essential that the new space support biannual theatrical productions, band concerts, regional band festivals, and a variety of community programming. The addition also includes key backstage amenities such as a scene shop, green room, and dressing rooms.
Soundscape employed 3D computer modeling software to predict reverberation times and map sound reflections throughout the auditorium. This modeling allowed acoustic cloud placement in the audience chamber to be optimized, wall angles determined, and selection and coverage of sound absorbing room finishes specified to optimize the room acoustics. In addition to the room acoustics, Soundscape provided HVAC noise control consulting and sound isolation design.
