University Medical Center - Hospital Noise Control

This new 1 million square foot, 581-bed, $768 million medical center opened in 2008. Acoustical consulting services were provided during design of this replacement hospital to address issues of noise control and sound isolation throughout the new building. Among these issues were sound isolation between patient rooms, sound isolation of upper floor MRI suites, acoustical finishes throughout the building, duct-borne noise from the HVAC system, noise transmission from the large mechanical room located on the 3rd floor of building (with occupied spaces below, above, and adjacent), electrical substation noise, and pneumatic tube system noise. Consulting services also included the design of a multi-zone overhead paging system to serve the entire building.
