Soundscape Engineering begins funded research study to assess outcomes of acoustical design for residential nursing facilities and inform the next edition of FGI’s Guidelines for Residential Health, Care, and Support Facilities.

Last week, Soundscape Engineering personnel began comprehensive acoustical testing at the 1800-resident Brooksby Village residential nursing facility in Massachusetts.  Measurements are being made of noise intrusion from the exterior, sound isolation and speech privacy, noise buildup and speech intelligibility within group spaces, building services noise levels, and all other acoustics metric contained in the current edition of the Guidelines.  After testing is complete, several months will be spent analyzing the data, comparing the results with the Guidelines, and correlating it with resident opinion surveys and other outcomes.  Results of the analysis will inform the next edition of the Guidelines.  Soundscape personnel feel fortunate to have been selected to perform this important work and look forward to publishing results later this year.
